Tesco Tramore is Tesco’s first Irish Eco-store. Furthermore, it is one of the first certified passive supermarkets in the world. A feasibility study carried out for the building contractor J. Manning & Son Ltd. helped the team to understand the requirements of an eco-store and revealed numerous energy saving possibilities. We sought to enhance the building and improve the shell and core without interfering with the typical store layout or the operation of the supermarket. Generally we followed the principles of 1) Save energy 2) Be energy efficient 3) Use renewable elements.
