This building is placed as another element in the creation of a civic space, augmenting that already commenced by the civic offices. It is a deceptively simple building, belying the resolution of its various functional requirements. The massing and fenestration, combined with fine detailing, do justice to a fine new civic building.

Architects' Description
The Civic Theatre is positioned to create a new urban space between itself, the Council Headquarters and the Council Library. It is the first in a projected series of interlinking urban spaces, a framework for a developing urbanism so long missing in Tallaght.

The foyer is a transparent box flattened alongside the new square to enliven and define it. Beside rather than behind the auditorium, it allows a promenade up the wide stairs and through the tall roof-lit gallery space to both the main venue (320 seats) and the more intimate studio space (80 seats). Both spaces are flexible in use and with their deep warm colours contrats with the lighter airy quality of the circulation routes and foyer.
