The ultimate design of the Aviva stadium was the result of intensive design consultations with all user groups – a true embodiment of Universal Design.
The resultant stadium has been considered in all aspects from the macro to include the transport planning to the micro in the well considered detailing.
The challenges regarding movement of people, wayfinding and provision of facilities in the building have been overcome in a seamless way. The routes are easy to understand, with good signage and level surfaces. Over 50% of the carparking provided has been allowed for disabled requirements. Access to the various levels has been catered for by generous provision of lifts. Accessible seating spaces have been provided at all levels so that a person in a wheelchair will have a view even when people are standing at the seats in front of them.
Finishes are simple and robust with colour providing good visual contrasts at various points.
