In 1989 the directors of Windmill Lane Studios decided to expand their video and film editing facilities to London. The approach to The Mill in London was to follow the formula extablished in Dublin. Using the very latest in digital equipment, the building accomodates a facility which was described by a film trade magazine as 'leaving the cometition five years out of date'.

The general layouts of the building were established at an early stage by the architect with Windmill Systems Design. A limited design competition was held for the interior design of the main public areas. The entry by Kearney and Kiernan was chosen. The client's decision to use Irsh architects and designers had the knock on effect of giving Irish suppliers and contractors an opportunity to tender, which also proved to be cost-effective for the client.
