The Larkin Theatre is designed as an integral part of the masterplan for Dublin City University. catering for a capacity of 400 people, it provides the largest single teaching space on the campus, available both for students and outside conferences, and is intended to be one of the primary focal points of the college.
The clear circular form, with an entrance portico wrapping around the drum of the theatre, crowned by a roof structure clad in lead panels, identifies its symbolic and hierarchical importance within the context of the university. The brickwork detailing, recessed blank panels over an open arcade, and incised horizontal joints around the main drum, refer to architectural themes being developed in other campus buildings, either completed or planned.
