No. 85 St. Stephen's Green which forms part of Newman House, was designed by Richard Cassells in 1738. It is now the property of UCD.
Phase I involved the restoration of the ground floor rooms and ancillary works.
Entrance Hall and Stairs - A draught lobby and storage cupboards were removed and the wall panelling partially remade. The marble floor was relaid. The fanlight was restored and the lantern converted to gaslight. The window glazing bars in both rooms were replaced to an early 18th century design.
Apollo Room - The Apollo Room is celebrated for its fine stucco work executed by the brothers La Francini. The back wall was brought back to its original condition. Every aspect of the interior was examined. All the details of the joinery were taken from other parts of the house. The stucco panels and masks were re-instated. The box dado and skirting were replaced and the splayed reveals and soffit of the window were straightened. Paint scrapes were taken and an attempt was made to decorate in the original colour scheme.
