The empty site at 65/66 Lower Mount Street presented us with a considerable challenge.

Our clients were anxious to erect a prestigious development which would repair the gap in the elevation and make a positive contribution to both Mount Street and its environs. Extreme care was paid to the urban context of the development which blends the Georgian character of buildings towards Merrion Square with the modern character of Grattan House by incorporating some of the essence of each period.

A heavy stone base is provided, whcih refers to the past, from which a delicate curtain wall emerges centrally through a brick wall which steps back at each level. Its central projecting bay window is capped in copper roof in dialogue with Holles Street hospital. This centrality is reconfirmed at the side and rear.

The building recognisesthe growing importance which now attaches to identity and individuality in maller organisations with more flexible work patterns.
