The choice of primary geometric forms such as the circular rotunda, and the long spanning triangular space-frame, is designed to make a visual impact against the background of exhibition pavilions, each demanding attention and some using extravagant methods of doing so.
The high-tech structural expression in the exhibition area, coupled to the strongly traditional form of the rotunda, is a suitable metaphor for modern Ireland's forward looking international policies linked to its historic past.
The division of the building into an open glazed exhibition space and an enclosed performance area achieves a maximum utilisation of the spatial envelope within the constraints of both site and budget.
