Dublin - Over £200,000

The design is informed by: the simple geometry of local buildings; the idea of a barge/boat with a machined metal outside and a crafted timber inside; and the desire for the varied use of natural light to avoid glare, maximise exhibition display options, and clearly indicate what is structure and what is cladding, while providing a constant visual link with the water. External and internal skins are hung from the steel superstructure, and are removable for access to services. Externally, white aluminium panels are used; internally, rare quarter sawn Irish oak veneer on fire-boards, incorporating an integral display system. Glass block surrounds the circulation cylinder, while timber decking is used for internal floor finishes.
