The design of the Biotechnology Centre reflects the hi-tech functions which it accomodates. Clad in GRC panels with Portland Stone aggregates, with areas of glazing protected by brise-soleil, it is an ordered and simple expression of its brief. The stairs, encased in glass block, are a beautifully detailed expression of this difficult material. The inclusion of a central studio/social space is a great asset to a building of this type.
