Citation

Dublin - Over £200,000

To design a building which stems from another culture and religious tradition is a challenge to any architect. The Islamic Cultural Centre, both fulfils the needs of its users and reflects their traditions.

Pastiche and superficial embellishments are not part of the design. The building is genuine expression of Islamic culture translated into a modern idiom.

Architects Comments
The resolution of the complex planning requirements resulted in a symmetrical building plan which formed the basis of a strong geometric pattern. This pattern was used throughout the planning and detailing to create a unity and distinct cultural and civic quality in the building.

Clients Comments
This is a unique building in Western Europe. It successfully provides a focus for the Islamic Community in Ireland and fulfils the need for religious, educational, social and recreational facilities in a manner which hopefully will be seen as a positive architectural contribution to Dublin.
