The Narrows Guesthouse, Portaferry

Citation

Northern - Over £200,000

Situated on the shore of Strangford Lough, The Narrows is a guesthouse for activity based holidays. Within its existing courtyard a new wing has been inserted which links the older buildings on the site while maintaining their scale and integrity. The courtyard is the focus of the small complex. Using timber galleries, decks and stairs, it has been transformed into a colourful, lively oasis visually embracing and including the Lough. It perfectly reflects the outdoor activities for which the guesthouse was designed.

Architect's Comment
The starting point of the project was a spectacular site and synamic clients (two brothers). We shared an etjos for the project and developed our views about aesthetics and positive accessibility. The result is a building that reflects many of our ideas, and is enjoyable to use.

Clients Comment
The building proves that accessibility, recycling and value for maney can go hand-in-hand. The finished product has surpassed all our expectations. It is both aesthetically pleasing and practical.
