Carrick on Shannon Courthouse

Citation

Western - Over £200,000

The courthouse which accomodates 3 courts, Circuit, District, and Family / Children, is designed in a refreshingly modern and non-institutional manner. It maintains its stature and dignity of function while still being approachable  and accessible to the general public.

The careful selection of materials conveys a civic nature and defines the approaches to the buildings as well as responding to the probable budgetary constraints of the project.

Architects' Comments
The project brief called for the provision of a modern courthouse, which is at the same time both dignified and unintimidating. Our challenge was to design a modern and accessible building on the edge of the town.

Client's Comment
The Judiciary, the staff and all the court users at Carrick on Shannon are very pleased with the facilities provided. The building is bright and airy and is a very pleasant environment to work in.

There is general consensus that the new Courthouse is a very welcome addition to the town of Carrick on Shannon.

The provision of the new Courthouse means that the courts are accessible to all as the building is fully accessible to persons with disabilities.
