Environmental Protection Agency HQ

Citation

Eastern - Over £200,000

The horizontal form chosen and the sensitive relationship of the building to the landscape is noteworthy. The environment created and the careful treatment of daylight penetration and ventilation, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and addressing the problem of heat gain, combine to make this an appropriate solution for the agency and provide it with a strong architectural image.

Architects' Comment
The EPA Headquarters Building attempts to establish a clear identity for the agency, by creating a strong visual image, while the sectional arrangement seeks to maximise daylight penetration and encourage natural ventilation to enhance the quality of the working environment.

Client's Comment
A striking building when viewed in its surroundings and even more impressive internally. The staff find the building bright, airy and comfortable. It has exceptionally good natural light and good ventilation. A good working environment.
