Citation

Northern - Over £200,000

The sense of space engendered by this holiday housing project also fulfils the aim of the architects in achieving a contemporary solution using a traditional architectural language.

Form follows function in an exemplary manner and the fact that the built scheme shows only minor changes from the winning RIAI managed open architectural competition entry is to be commended.

It is another success story for the RIAI competition system, when the quality of architecture is the sole selection criteria and indicates what can be acieved given the involvement of the lcoal community in the formalisation of the brief and the construction on site.

Architects' Comments
Arranmore Holiday Housing attempts to interpret traditional rural housing in a contemporary manner. The houses have been placed in the landscape responding directly to the existing site contours.

Client's Comments
Arranmore housing is a result of an architectural competition sponsored by the Comharcumann on the island. The project was constructed by the Comharcuan themselves and has been drawing very favorable comments from visitors.
