Citation

Dublin - Over £200,000

The completed winning entry to the Dun Laoighaire / Rathdown County Hall (RIAI Managed) two stage competition, fulfils its initial design promise. It is both modern in its expression and understanding of its context. The elevational composition, scale and materials harmonise with the existing buildings to create a coherent architectural entity. The internal concourse and winter garden form a powerful central arena reinforcing the identity and dignity of a significant public building.

Architect's Comment
Dun Laoighaire / Rathdown County Hall is - as built - virtually identical to the competition winning design of 1994. Extending from the 19th century Town Hall and POst Office, the internal concourse with its 8m high sliding doors and green technology, providesa memorable heart to the complex.

Clients Comment
The form of the building 'knitting' together the old and the new neatly symolises the joining of the Dun Laoighaire / Rathdown areas; the central concourse brings the community right into the heart of the nuilding.
