The design of this two storey apartment derives from the need to allow light into an almost windowless interior. The control and manipulation of light in and through space is the essential concern of the design and is achieved with skill and ingenuity. The warmth and serenity of the main living area is realised through the use of horizontal porortions to screens and windows, the gentle contour of the ceiling plane and the careful selection of materials and colours.
Architects' Comments
The new modern apartment is in a Victorian terrace in Knightsbridge. Natural finishes are maple and steel, with diffuser glass to allow daylight and privacy to this tight and tidy plan.
Clients' Comments
The cedar Japanese style screen hides the kitchen when not in use and the curved maple ceiling adds interest to the open plan space. The archietcts used their imaginative and creative skills to creata n enjoyable place to live in.
