Insertion to the National Sculpture Factory

Citation

Southern (under £100,000)

Simplicity of form and process transforms this 'craft' like, utilitarian platform into a sculptural tour-de-force, which does not compromise the flexibility of the floor beneath or the walls above. The old tramshed reborn as the 'National Sculpture Factory' is effortlessly spanned by a steel framed, lead clad, acoustically attenuated 'guest' intervention, which hangs in the 'host' space. It is accessed by detached folded steel plate steps, that is more part of the grounded tangle of artists' debris and equipment, than the lofty retreat, accommodating an office, kitchen and meeting room.
