Irish Architecture Awards Exhibition2009 : Victoria Square, Belfast
One of the most important regeneration projects in Belfast in recent times, Victoria Square has now been chosen to host the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, (RIAI) annual Architectural Awards 2009 Exhibition. The exhibition contains highlights of the winners and highly commended entries from the 2009 RIAI Irish Architecture Awards. A Belfast –based design practice BDP won the award in the Best Retail Development category for Victoria Square.
Victoria Square includes nearly 63,000m2 of retail floorspace over three floors, anchored by a flagship House of Fraser store, and including a multi-screen cinema, food court and restaurant terrace, 106 apartments and a two-level basement car park for 1000 cars.
The RIAI Premier Awards Exhibition is a major component of the RIAI efforts to illustrate and inform members of the public of the impact of good architecture on their lives, and over the past twenty one years there have been 350 such exhibitions all over Ireland; attracting members of the public and press both nationally and internationally with interest in every location. There were over 227 entries this year spread over 17 different categories, including housing, conservation, sustainability, accessibility, best building in the landscape, retail, leisure, public choice and culture.
The Exhibition will be on view till 20, February 2010, situated on 2nd Floor, Victoria Square, Open 7 days a week, usual business hours.
